WOOF WOOF all you Devil Dogs! I hope you have all finished your Christmas shopping and are ready for the visit from the
Big Red Dog!
At the last Growl, we decided not to have a Growl in the month of December.
THE JANUARY GROWL WILL BE HELD IN GAINESVILLE AT THE VFW POST ON WALDO ROAD, WEDNESDAY - JANUARY 10TH. Our usual place
in Alachua is booked, so we had to find an alternate location. We will pick back up in Alachua in February.
We will provide chili and devil dogs for chow at 1800 in the meeting hall at the VFW. Cold beverages are available
from the VFW canteen next door. The Growl will begin at the usual hour of 1900.
Have safe, happy holidays.....Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Woof Woof Devil Dogs!
We will be honored at our November 15th Growl to have the Worthy Florida Pack Leader, Ken Travis, as our guest.
He will be advancing DD Norman Dessert to the Degree of Pedigreed Devil Dog at this Growl. In addition, we will have the nomination
and election of Pound Officers for the coming year.
Please note that this Growl is being held a WEEK LATER than normal to accommodate Marine Corps Birthday Ball rehearsals.
The Growl will be held at the usal place - Conestoga's Restaurant in Alachua at 1900. Come early and have a cold beverage
and meal.
Those of you who are not Life Members and are not new to the Pound, should also bring your annual dues to be paid up
and in good standing. We should have collected the dues in September, but did not. The Dog Robber will need to get these bones
to Kennel ASAP!
We had a great group of Dogs at the last Growl and I look forward to seeing each one of you there on November 15th!
Happy Birthday Devil Dogs!!!!!!

Woof Woof!
I was great to see all you Dogs at the Growl last night! I think this was the largest number of Dogs assembled for a
Pound 299 Growl ever. We missed the MAD DOG.....the Pups that came into the Pound last night missed you too!
Since at least one detachment has scheduled a Marine Corps Ball rehearsal for the second Wednesday of November, we will
have the November Growl on Wednesday, NOVEMBER 15th at the usual location. We will determine at the November Growl whether
there will be a December Growl at the Connestoga - typically they have the room booked for Christmas parties during this time
and many of us are busy with Toys for Tots as well.
At the November Growl, we will also have the election and installation of officers for the coming year.
Welcome to Joe, Eric, and "Z". We are glad to have you aboard.

DEVIL DOGS CONTRIBUTE TO VETERAN HOSPICE UNIT
Pound 299 made a donation to the VA Medical Center at Lake City to be used specifically in the hospice unit. The
presentation on behalf of our Pound was made by PDD's John PARKER and Dale CONDY. Accepting for the facility was Ron
Joyner, Assistant Chief, Voluntary Services.
Click here to view the letter from the Medical Center in response to the donation.
Many thanks to our Devil Dogs and our ability to give back to the community, especially to our veterans in need.
That is "Semper Fidelis" in action.

WOOF, WOOF! THEM DOGS IS UPGRADED!!
Congratulations to our newest Pedigreed Devil Dogs... PDD John McCoy, PDD Rich Morgan, & PDD Dick Lester!
These Devil Dogs have just returned from the National Convention in Boston wearing new gold collars after going through a
grueling initiation ritual! Also congratulations are in order to PDD Jerry Curtis who
was advanced at the July Growl by our Worthy Pack Leader, Ken Travis. With all of these new PDD's new Pups won't have a chance.
Speaking of new Pups, we need to look around our Detachments to see if there are any worthy Mongrels that should be invited
to join our Order. I know of at least one in the Gator Detachment who's qualified and should be a candidate in September.
Speaking of September, the Growl date is Wednesday, September 13th at 1700 in Alachua at Conestoga's Restaurant. I won't
be able to attend, but our very capable Senior Vice-Poundkeeper - Dale Condy will be in charge.
Keep Devil Dogs Paul Hagerich and Norm Dessert in your thoughts and prayers as they recover from their ailments.
I hope that you will all be present at the September Growl and bring those bones! Poundkeeper PDD John Parker

NEW DEVIL DOGS!
Congratulations go out to Devil Dogs Rick Gonzales, Scott Dupree, and
Paul Davis who advanced to the degree of Devil Dogs at the recent Growl of the Florida Pack in Kissimmee on 10 June 2006.
They endured their initiation and are now sporting their new red collars!
Our next Growl will be held on Wednesday, July 12th at 1900 in Alachua
at Conestoga's Restaurant. I hope you saved up your bones from the month of June and I look forward to seeing all of you there.
We may have some special guests at this Growl, so I'd like to have a good turn-out. More on that later........
(Posted June 2006)
GROWL SCHEDULE
Because of committments from several of our membership - me included- we will not have a Growl in June. We will plan
to have one in July.
Due to the dates of the National Convention in Quincy, MA in early August, we will not have a Growl in August. We will
pick back up in September on our regular schedule.
Devil Dog Lester....Will you please call Conestogas and cancel for the dates in June and in August?
Save your bones. Just because we won't have a Growl on those dates doesn't mean that you can go out and spend those
bones on something stupid! Bury them and don't forget where you hid them. Dig em up and bring them to the next Growl!
(May 2006)
NEW PUP!
We welcome a new pup to the Pound ... Cary Hill! Cary is the Senior Vice Commandant of the Gator Detachment and
has been an active member of the Detachment for over five years. He is the Toys for Tots Coordinator for the Gainesville /
Alachua County area and is the Training Officer for the Milton Lewis Young Marines. We look forward to his participation in
Pound 299. (May 2006)
TRIKE PRESENTATION
We had a recipient for a Trike, but their doctor advised against it, so we are back on the search for a worthy recipient.
If you have any info, call PoundKeeper John Parker or PDD Dale Condy. (Posted March 2006)
DONATION MADE TO LAKE CITY VA HOSPICE
Pound 299 donated $500.00 to the hospice unit of the Lake City VA Center. It was a heartfelt donation from
our membership that we know will help the hospice unit maintain a comfortable atmosphere for our deserving veterans. (March
2006)
DONATION MADE TO THE YOUNG MARINES
Pound 299 donated $345.00 to the Milton Lewis Young Marines. These bones will be used as a scholarship to assist
those kids who wish to join this fine organization but need some financial assistance. Our donation will fully cover
startup costs for three Young Marines to pay for their initial dues and uniform items. (Posted March 2006)
TURKEY SHOOT
Devil Dog Dick Lester led the Pound to a Turkey Shoot at the Fort White Gun Club on February 25th. In addition
to some of our Devil Dogs, a few MCL members were on hand as well as a couple of civilians. Everybody had a good time
(a "blast", you could say) although we really hoped for more participation. We will plan another shoot in the future
and get the word out to more people. Thanks to DD Lester for his putting that together. (Posted February 2006)
